The Party:

The 2000 The Great Tropical Jazz Party kicked off on Tuesday 10 October in fairly informal style  with Jose McLaughlan,  Lisa Ryan, John Hoffman and Edwina Thorne headlining a very laid back tropical sunset session session on the shores of Magnetic Island's Horseshoe Bay.

We were so laid back that I think  there was only one picture taken that night & no one can find it !!! One thing that I do remember is that Edwina Thorne knocked everybody's socks off !!!!!!

Friday started slowly - more sunshine, pool, food and wine.  A mayoral reception to welcome the musicians to the Island was followed by a beautiful evening around the tropical pool of the Magnetic Island International Hotel

The Saturday Jazz Concert kicked off at the Tropical Resort with the 29 piece sound of the Stokes/Nicholson Big Band and ended with the eclectic Cubano Chant (featuring just about everybody)

The Saturday night jam session was packed and despite the sound system both Peter Cross and Edwina Thorn had a good blow.  I understand that by 2.00am there was dancing on the tables.

I'm afraid that no photos are available from the jam session - you just had to be there !!!!

The Sunday Concert was kicked in fine style by the Stokes/Nicholson Big Band - including a few ring-in's there were 27 musicians on stage  They were followed by the Melbourne based Roger Clarke Quintet featuring Julie O'Hara on Vocals.

Closing the festival that night was a Jazz Dinner Under The Stars - a very laid back jam on another balmy tropical night.  Around the pool at the Arcadia Resort  with the sound of the water lapping the shores of Geoffrey Bay in the Background
